Dr. Constance Mui is a Professor of Philosophy at the College of Arts and Sciences, Loyola University New Orleans, and holds the Rev. Scott Youree Watson, S.J., Distinguished Professorship in Arts and Sciences. She specializes in continental philosophy, with a focus on phenomenology, existentialism, and feminist theory, integrating Sartrean ontology into analyses of gender, trauma, and political resistance.
- Education: Ph.D. from Brown University
Her research spans feminist theory, Sartrean philosophy, and embodiment, often addressing globalization, children’s rights, and ethics in post-9/11 contexts. Recent publications explore themes like pornography as ontological objectification, trauma resilience, and feminist reinterpretations of existential ethics.
Dr. Mui’s professional service includes leadership roles in the North American Sartre Society (President, 2003–2005), the Central Division Sartre Circle (current President), and the Diversity Committee of the Society of Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (2001–2005). She is currently Reviews Editor for Sartre Studies International.
