Conor Wilson is a Senior Lecturer, Research Lead, and Higher Degrees Tutor in the Bath School of Art, Film and Media at Bath Spa University. He joined the university in 2016, drawn to its art school ethos of innovation and collaboration. His practice bridges ceramics, sculpture, and writing, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches rooted in object-oriented ontology and material engagement. Wilson holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art (2016), an MA from Cardiff School of Art and Design (UWIC), and a BA (Hons) from Bristol School of Art and Design (UWE).
His research focuses on the intersection of making and writing, exploring how material processes generate theoretical insights. Key themes include inter-object relations, the role of clay as a medium, and the contamination of writing into making. Current projects include a forthcoming book of image-text experiments and investigations into ceramic processes combined with digital techniques.
Wilson’s publications span ceramic theory, art criticism, and exhibition catalogues, with notable works like Light Pricks: Whispers and Kicks (2017) and contributions to James Tower: Ceramics, Sculpture and Drawings (2019). His work has been exhibited widely, including at the British Ceramics Biennial and Plymouth Arts Centre. He actively supervises PhD research in ceramics and is involved in academic discourse through peer reviews and external examinations.
