Conny Kazungu serves as a Lecturer and Faculty Advisor for the Environmental Science & Policy Program at the University of Maryland, teaching courses in International Relations & National Security, Environmental Policy & Politics, and Public Policy from her office in Tydings Hall.
Her academic credentials include:
- Master of Science in Environmental Sciences from Miami University, Ohio
- Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Her research bridges environmental governance and global security, with concentrated expertise in Sub-Saharan African terrorism dynamics, U.S. counterterrorism frameworks, and cross-regional conflict analysis spanning Southeast Asia and the Middle East. She investigates how grassroots environmental initiatives like wetland restoration intersect with policy advocacy, while her security work examines mediation strategies in war zones through collaborations with U.S. defense and state agencies.
As Faculty Advisor, she directs the Politics & Policy concentration within the Environmental Science & Policy Program, mentoring students on the nexus of ecological stewardship and geopolitical strategy.
