Condoleezza Rice is the Tad and Dianne Taube Director of the Hoover Institution and the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at Stanford University. She is also the Denning Professor in Global Business and the Economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and has been a member of the Stanford faculty since 1981. She previously served as Stanford’s Provost from 1993 to 1999.

Her research and expertise span national security, U.S. foreign policy, Russian politics and history, energy policy, and public policy. She has co-founded research initiatives such as the Education Futures Council and the Technology Policy Accelerator, and participates in research teams including the Global Policy and Strategy Initiative and the Human Prosperity Project on Socialism and Free Market Capitalism.
Rice’s written work includes influential books such as To Build a Better World, No Higher Honor, and Democracy: Stories from the Long Road to Freedom. While her publications are primarily in the form of books and policy commentaries rather than peer-reviewed journal articles, her intellectual contributions are central to contemporary debates on democracy, foreign affairs, and global leadership.
Her scientific and public service honors include being a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, receiving over fifteen honorary doctorates, the George H.W. Bush Points of Light Award, and the 2023 Medal of Glory Award from the Foundation for Democracy in Africa.
Rice has advised or collaborated with numerous global leaders and institutions. She co-founded the Center for a New Generation, an after-school enrichment program, and continues to advocate for education reform and school choice. She serves on the boards of C3.ai and Makena Capital Management and is Vice Chair of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. She is also a founding partner of Rice, Hadley, Gates & Manuel LLC, an international strategic consulting firm, and a part-owner of the Denver Broncos.
She has no formal lab or research team in the scientific sense but leads major policy initiatives at the Hoover Institution, including forums on AI, energy, and global security. Her recent work emphasizes the importance of U.S. leadership in technology, education, and democracy.
