Peter Clement is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies within the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). He teaches courses on contemporary Russian security policy, intelligence, and U.S. foreign policy. Prior to joining Columbia, he held senior positions at the CIA, including Deputy Assistant Director for Europe and Eurasia (2015–present), Deputy Director for Intelligence for Analytic Programs (2005–2013), and Director of the Office of Russian and Eurasian Analysis (1997–2003). He served as the PDB daily briefer for Vice-President Cheney, NSC Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy NSC Adviser Stephen Hadley (2003–2004).
His research focuses on Russian security policy, U.S. foreign policy, and intelligence analysis. He recently served as Interim Director of the Saltzman Institute and was honored with SIPA’s 2019–20 Outstanding Teaching Award.
