Dr. Concetta Bubici is a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science at Brunel University of London, affiliated with the Department of Life Sciences and the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. She holds an Honorary Lecturer position at Imperial College London and a Visiting Senior Lecturer role at the University of Leeds. Her career spans institutions in Italy, the United States, and the UK, with a focus on molecular mechanisms linking cell signaling to cancer metabolism.
- PhD in Experimental Medicine and Endocrinology, University of L’Aquila (international exchange with University of Chicago)
- Combined 5-year BSc and MSc in Biological Sciences, University of L’Aquila (1st class Honours)
- Fellow of Higher Education Academy, UK
Her research centers on metabolic reprogramming in cancer cells, particularly the interplay between NF-κB, JNK, and Warburg effect in hepatocellular carcinoma and multiple myeloma. She investigates drug resistance mechanisms and develops strategies to exploit cancer metabolic vulnerabilities. Her work includes collaborations with clinical scientists at the University of Leeds and Imperial College London.
Recent publications highlight her focus on fatty acid oxidation, glycolytic stress, kinase-dependent phosphorylation, and metabolic pathway interactions. These studies inform therapeutic approaches for hematological and solid cancers.
- American-Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) Fellowship
- Fellow of Higher Education Academy, UK
Dr. Bubici oversees teaching modules including Molecular and Cell Biology, Data Analysis, and MSc Project Dissertations. She has secured research grants from Leukaemia & Myeloma Research UK, Kay Kendall Leukaemia Fund, GUTSUK, Rosetrees Trust, and Bloodwise for projects targeting metabolic pathways in cancer therapy.
As an active member of the Cancer Gene Therapy editorial board, she contributes to media outreach via outlets like The Conversation UK and OncoDaily.
