Colleen E. Chancler is an Assistant Professor in the Institute for Physical Therapy Education at Widener University, part of the College of Health & Human Services. She holds a PhD in Health Sciences (2017) from Seton Hall University, an MHS from Drexel University (2005), and a BS in Physical Therapy from the University of Scranton (1986). A long-standing member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) since 1982, she has held leadership roles in its House of Delegates and committees. Notably, she received the Lucy Blair Service Award (2022) and the APTA Henry O. and Florence P. Kendall Practice Award (2011).
Her research focuses on biopsychosocial impacts of hospitalization on older adults, social determinants of health recovery post-acute illness, and innovative teaching methods in physical therapy education. She has spearheaded interprofessional collaborations and adapted pro bono clinics to telehealth during the pandemic. Her clinical expertise spans acute care and neurorehabilitation, with a focus on complex medical cases.
Awards include national and institutional recognitions for service and practice. She actively participates in community initiatives, such as the Black Doctors Consortium Walk-a-Thon to address health equity issues. Chancler has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and APTA conference presentations, emphasizing practical clinical applications and healthcare accessibility.
