Colin Novak is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Automotive Engineering at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Engineering. His research focuses on acoustics, noise vibration and harshness (NVH), and environmental noise impact. He is renowned for leading investigations into the mysterious Windsor Hum, a low-frequency noise phenomenon affecting the Windsor area. His work has been featured internationally, including on the History Channel and Japanese public broadcaster NHK. Professor Novak also mentors engineering students in impactful projects, such as optimizing custom wheelchair seating for children with special needs and improving room acoustics through capstone design initiatives. He collaborates with industry and government on applied research, contributing to automotive innovation and accessibility advancements. His interdisciplinary approach bridges environmental acoustics, public health, and community engagement.
