Polat Şendur

Polat Şendur is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Özyeğin University's Faculty of Engineering, where he leads the Vibrations & Acoustics Laboratory. His academic career bridges both industry and academia, bringing extensive practical experience to his research and teaching.

Dr. Şendur earned his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1996, followed by M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan in 1998 and 2002 respectively. After completing his post-doctoral research at the University of Michigan Automotive Research Center, he gained significant industry experience working at Tec-Masters in Huntsville (specializing in accident reconstruction), Robert Bosch Corporation in Farmington Hills, and Ford Otosan where he spent ten years (2006-2016) working on Durability, Vehicle Dynamics, and NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) teams.

His research focuses on Multi-Body Dynamics, Vibrations, Acoustics and Biomechanics, with specific expertise in structural health monitoring, damping characterization, and development of advanced simulation tools. The Vibrations & Acoustics Laboratory under his direction conducts research in mid and high frequency vibration/acoustics, lightweight design tools, and vehicle dynamics. The laboratory serves as a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility involved in theoretical, numerical and experimental analysis of engineering systems, with strong industry connections and technology transfer initiatives.

Dr. Şendur actively recruits both graduate and undergraduate students for research projects in vibrations, acoustics, multi-body dynamics, vehicle dynamics, lightweight design, multi-disciplinary optimization, and biomechanics, with financial aid available for students with high academic standing.
