Colin Chamberlain is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at University College London (UCL). He holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto (2006) and a Ph.D. from Harvard University (2014). Prior to UCL, he served at Temple University from 2014 to 2022, advancing from Assistant to Associate Professor.
His research focuses on 17th- and 18th-century European philosophy, particularly the works of René Descartes, Margaret Cavendish, and Nicolas Malebranche. Key themes include embodiment, mind-body relations, and the materiality of the mind. He co-edits the Oxford Handbook to Malebranche and is writing a book on Malebranche’s philosophy.
Chamberlain’s recent publications address topics such as Malebranche’s account of passions and imagination, Cavendish’s materialism and self-motion arguments, and Descartes’ views on bodily awareness. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary debates in philosophy of mind and metaphysics.
