Professor Clive Cazeaux serves as Professor of Aesthetics at Cardiff School of Art & Design, Cardiff Metropolitan University. His academic journey spans over two decades with significant leadership roles including Programme Leader for BA Art and Philosophy and former Head of Research Degrees in the School of Art & Design.
His educational background includes:
- Fine Art at Goldsmiths' College, University of London (1984-87)
- MA in Philosophy at Cardiff University (1989-90)
- PhD research at Technische Universität Berlin and Cardiff University (1990-95)
Professor Cazeaux's research centers on the intersection of aesthetics, philosophy, and art theory, with particular expertise in Kantian philosophy and its applications to contemporary art. His scholarly work explores how philosophical concepts inform our understanding of artistic representation, metaphor, and significance. His publications demonstrate deep engagement with phenomenological approaches to aesthetics and the philosophical foundations of artistic practice, spanning topics from scientific imagery to textile art and trauma.
His career progression includes Lecturer in Philosophy at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (1995), Senior Lectureship in Aesthetics at the University of Wales Institute (1996), and Professor of Aesthetics (2012). During his tenure as Head of Research Degrees (2007-2016), he significantly shaped the research culture within the School of Art & Design, mentoring numerous postgraduate researchers and developing research frameworks that integrate philosophical inquiry with artistic practice.
