Clive Belfield is an Associate Professor of Economics at Queens College, City University of New York, and Co-director of the Center for Benefit-Cost Studies in Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. He also serves as Associate Editor of the Economics of Education Review.
His educational background includes:
- B.A. in Economics from the University of Durham (1990)
- M.A. in Economics from the University of Saskatchewan (1993)
- Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Exeter (1997)
Professor Belfield specializes in cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis of educational interventions, with research spanning economics of education, labor economics, and early childhood interventions. His work quantifies the economic and social returns of educational policies, exemplified by his book The Price We Pay: The Economic and Social Costs of Inadequate Education.
He has extensive consulting experience for the World Bank, U.S. Department of Education, British Government, and education non-profits, translating research into policy guidance.
As Co-director of the Center for Benefit-Cost Studies in Education, he leads a research team evaluating education programs through rigorous economic frameworks to inform funding decisions and systemic improvements.
