Clive Stafford Smith JD OBE is the current Gresham Professor of Law (2024–), a dual UK-US national, and founder/director of the Justice League, a non-profit human rights training center. He teaches part-time at Bristol Law School and Goldsmiths, while running a summer program for 35 students in Dorset. Recognized with an OBE in 2000, his career spans decades of capital case litigation, securing the release of 85 Guantanamo detainees and representing over 400 individuals facing execution globally.

His research and advocacy focus on human rights law, constitutional law, and capital punishment, informed by frontline litigation. He has authored books like Bad Men (Guantanamo) and The Far Side of the Moon (2023), blending legal analysis with personal narratives. His film collaborations include the acclaimed documentary Fourteen Days In May (1987).

Clive founded the Louisiana Capital Assistance Center (1993) and Reprieve (1999), and leads the Post-Mortem Project to investigate innocence claims of executed individuals.
