Clio Doyle is a Lecturer in Early Modern Literature at Queen Mary University of London since 2021. She holds a BA in English from the University of Oxford, an MPhil in Medieval Studies, and a PhD in English and Renaissance Studies from Yale University. Her research focuses on Taylor Swift’s literary significance, classical reception in historical narratives, and the intersection of ecology and early modern literature. She teaches courses on literature, popular culture, and Taylor Swift’s work, including a summer module titled Taylor Swift and Literature.

Her research explores how Taylor Swift’s lyrics engage with literary traditions and contemporary humanities discourse. She co-hosts Clio/Mireille: A Fanfiction Podcast, analyzing fan-created narratives, and writes a newsletter (The Manuscript: Taylor Swift and Literature). Her work bridges academic scholarship with public engagement, as seen in media appearances and lectures on Swift’s cultural impact.
Her articles and books address early modern ecological thought and the academic study of Swift. Recent work includes Dear Reader: Taylor Swift and the Idea of English Literature (forthcoming 2026) and prize-winning analyses of early modern texts. She has presented at conferences such as the Taylor Swift Academic Conference and the Graduate Conference in European History.
Awards include the Yale University Theron Rockwell Field Prize and the Sixteenth Century Society Literature Prize for her article on Barclay’s Eclogues. Her public engagement spans podcasts, BBC interviews, and contributions to The Conversation, where her article on Swift’s place in literature was widely read.
She collaborates on projects like the National Humanities Center’s AI and language learning podcasts, furthering interdisciplinary humanities outreach.
