Dr. Clintoria Williams is a Tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience, Cell Biology & Physiology at Wright State University. She holds dual leadership roles as Director of the Small Animal Physiology (SAP) Core and Scientific Director of the Cardio-Renal Institute. Her office is located at NEC Building 453, Dayton, OH.
Education:
- Postdoc in Renal Pathophysiology, Emory University (2011-2015)
- Postdoc in Vascular Pathophysiology, Emory University (2009-2011)
- PhD in Cellular & Molecular Physiology, University of Alabama at Birmingham (2008)
- BS in Biology, Clark Atlanta University (2001)
Her research program investigates molecular mechanisms of kidney disease with two primary focus areas: Calcineurin Inhibitor Nephrotoxicity (studying isoform-specific effects of immunosuppressants on renal damage) and Zinc Deficiency Nephropathy (examining zinc's role in blood pressure regulation and CKD progression). Her work has been recognized by the NIH, American Heart Association, and featured in journal covers.
Publications consistently address renal pathophysiology through cellular and pharmacological approaches, with recurring themes in fibrosis mechanisms, mineral metabolism dysregulation, and therapeutic interventions for hypertension and CKD.
Awards & Honors:
- A. Clifford Barger Mentorship Award (2024)
- NIH R01 Grant for zinc supplementation research (2022-2026)
- Carl W. Gottschalk Research Scholar Grant (2022)
- Fellow of the American Heart Association (2021)
- Renal Section Young Investigator Award (2021)
- Early Career Achievement Award (2020)
She leads the 'Kidney Krew' research group mentoring 7+ trainees and secured NIH funding including an R01 grant ($ multi-year) for zinc therapy research and an F30 grant for her student's work on calcineurin inhibitors. As co-founder of Black in Physiology Inc., she promotes diversity in science through outreach programs and professional development initiatives.
