معرفی
Cliff Calloway is a Professor of Chemistry at Winthrop University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He joined the faculty in 1995 and serves as the department's analytical instrumentation manager and system administrator for the Molecular Modeling Lab. His roles include teaching introductory chemistry and analytical chemistry courses, as well as developing specialized labs and curricula.
Education:
- Ph.D., Chemistry, Wake Forest University
- M.S., Chemistry, Appalachian State University
- B.A., Chemistry, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Research Interests: Dr. Calloway focuses on two key areas: (1) developing cost-effective, portable atomic spectrometers using tungsten coils, aiming to improve analytical sensitivity and reduce operational costs; and (2) integrating modern technology (e.g., molecular modeling, NMR spectroscopy) into undergraduate labs to enhance student learning. He also pioneered the course Forensic Analytical Chemistry, applying instrumental techniques to criminalistics.
Awards & Recognition:
- Four-time recipient of the Joe B. Davis Award for Excellence in Chemical Education (2000, 2001, 2004, 2009).
Grants & Collaborations:
- Funded by NSF, Department of Homeland Security, and Winthrop University's Research Council.
- Collaborations with researchers at Wake Forest University, Western Carolina University, and the University of São Paulo, Brazil.
Labs & Affiliations:
- Manages the Molecular Modeling Lab and oversees analytical instrumentation.
- Member of the American Chemical Society, Society for Applied Spectroscopy, and South Carolina Academy of Science.
