Nathan Seifert is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of New Haven, affiliated with the Tagliatela College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in Chemistry from Amherst College. His research focuses on developing chirped pulse Fourier transform microwave (CP-FTMW) spectroscopic techniques and applying machine learning to analyze molecular spectra for structure determination and analytical chemistry applications. Current projects include designing low-cost CP-FTMW spectrometers and advancing software for spectral interpretation and instrument interfacing.
His work bridges experimental and computational chemistry, emphasizing molecular cluster structures, hydrogen bonding, and fluorinated systems. Recent studies explore conformational landscapes of fluoroalcohols, Criegee intermediates, and isomeric identification via rotational spectroscopy. He collaborates on projects involving water clusters, anesthetic binding, and reaction mechanisms relevant to atmospheric and organic chemistry.
Publications highlight advancements in spectroscopic techniques, such as optimal transport algorithms for spectral analysis, and structural insights into molecules like cyclohexanones, naphthol dimers, and epoxides. His research contributes to both fundamental understanding of molecular behavior and practical analytical tools for chemical analysis.
