Clement Tong

Clement Tong is a Seasonal Lecturer at the University of British Columbia's Department of Asian Studies, specializing in the history and culture of China, Hong Kong, and Cantonese-speaking communities. He holds a PhD in Religious Studies from UBC and coordinates the Global Mandarin Program at ACTS Seminaries.

Research examines translation practices, transcultural communication, and identity formation in Cantonese worlds. Publications explore Bible translation in Chinese contexts, cultural memory in Hong Kong, and historical events shaping Cantonese identity.

Teaching includes History of Cantonese Worlds (ASIA 323), History of Hong Kong (ASIA 373), and China in World History (ASIA 270), blending historical analysis with cultural studies approaches.
