Dr. Clement E. Akumu is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering at the College of Agriculture. His academic background includes a BS in Environmental Sciences from the University of Buea (Cameroon), an MS from University College Cork (Ireland), and a PhD in Applied Geoinformatics from Southern Cross University (Australia). He teaches graduate courses including AGSC 6525 (Remote Sensing and Image Analysis) and AGSC 6510 (Advanced Geospatial Information Systems).
His research focuses on applied remote sensing and GIS with specialization in precision agriculture, drone-based crop/weed monitoring, land use change detection, and environmental modeling. Key methodologies include multi-sensor data fusion (drones, Landsat, LiDAR), vegetation indices analysis, and geospatial predictive modeling for agricultural and ecological applications.
Akumu's recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on advanced geospatial techniques for agricultural optimization (75% of 2019-2024 papers) and environmental monitoring. Dominant themes include drone/satellite integration for crop health assessment, LiDAR-enhanced land classification, and climate-impact studies on wetlands/forests. His work consistently bridges theoretical geoinformatics with practical agricultural and environmental management solutions.
