Dr. Clay A. Cavinder is a Professor in the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences at Missippi State University. He holds a PhD in Animal Science from Texas A&M University, an MS from Missouri State University, and a BS from Oklahoma State University.

- Research Interests: Equine reproductive physiology, exercise and nutrition effects on equine health, equine-assisted therapy, and equine body condition modeling
His recent publications (2024-2018) focus on equine-assisted therapies for mental health, reproducive physiology, mathematical models for energy intake, and adipose tissue analysis. His work spans disciplines including Equine Science, Animal Nutrition, Psychology, and Reproductive Biology.
Notable collaborations include research with M. Friend, M. C. Nicodemus, and E. Memili. He has developed extension programs on topics like equine forage management, joint supplementation, and horse marketing. He advises graduate students Ty Jones and Hannah Valigura and co-coaches the Horse Judging Team.
