Claus Kurt ZITTEL

Claus Kurt ZITTEL is an Associate Professor at the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies at Ca' Foscari University of Venice. He serves as a member of the Bembolab Laboratory Board of Directors and holds an affiliation with the Research Institute for Digital and Cultural Heritage. His academic career includes roles such as Professor of German Literature at the University of Warmia and Mazury (1999–2019), Visiting Professorships at institutions like FU Berlin and Peking University, and leadership in research projects like the Max Planck Research Group in Florence.

Education: He earned a Magister degree from Goethe University Frankfurt and the University of Pisa (1984–1994), a PhD from Goethe University (1999), and habilitation degrees in 2008 and 2009. He holds a national qualification for first-rank professorship in German Literature (2023).

Research focuses on German literature, aesthetics, early modern European intellectual history, Nietzsche studies, and interdisciplinary digital humanities. His work bridges philosophy, art history, and scientific epistemology, with recent publications addressing topics like textual dynamics in Goethe’s works and avant-garde cultural networks.

ZITTEL has held over 20 grants/fellowships, including DAAD, Marbach Stipendium, and Erasmus programs. He is actively involved in editorial roles for journals like Nietzsche-Studien and serves on scientific councils for institutions such as the Istituto Italiano di Studi Germanici.
