Claudius Cluever is a research assistant at the University of Siegen, affiliated with Faculty III IT for an Aging Society and the Socioinformatics department. He is currently working on the WERTE.IT project, which investigates IT accessibility in the workplace to promote inclusive labor practices. He holds an MA and is pursuing a doctoral thesis titled "The Game in the Box: The History of Games as Commodity," analyzing the intersection of civil society and the gaming industry.
His research spans game studies, praxeology, digital pedagogy, non-digital games, and the material turn in game scholarship. A key focus is the concept of "Digital Biedermeier," developed with colleagues Finja Walsdorff and Max Kanderske, which examines digital domesticity, reproductive labor, and ethics of care in digital environments. His work also addresses accessibility, gender in gaming, and the societal impact of technologies like blockchain and NFTs.
His recent publications, spanning from 2021 to 2025, reveal a consistent focus on the materiality of games, player practices, and the socio-political implications of digital culture. The research trends highlight a critical perspective on the commodification of play, the ethics of digital labor, and the potential of games for care and inclusion. His work often appears in the journal Spiel|Formen, where he is also an editor.
He is an active member of the academic and gaming communities, serving as chair of the Spielkultur Siegen eV association and contributing to the GamesCoop collective. His involvement includes organizing events, moderating panels, and presenting at international conferences on game studies, media aesthetics, and digital culture.
He has taught courses in socioinformatics, digital accessibility, media studies, game design, and praxeological methods. His teaching reflects his interdisciplinary research interests, bridging technology, culture, and social inclusion.
