Claudio Sopranzetti is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at the Central European University (CEU) and a Quondam Fellow at All Souls College, University of Oxford. His research investigates the intersections of capitalism, urbanism, environmental change, and social movements in Southeast Asia and Southern Europe.

His work critically examines urban mobility, labor dynamics, and political mobilization. Notable publications include Red Journeys: Inside the Thai Red Shirts Movement (2012) and Owners of the Map: Motorcycle Taxi Drivers, Mobility, and Politics in Bangkok (2018), awarded the 2019 Margaret Mead Award. His anthropological graphic novel The King of Bangkok (2021) received multiple accolades, including the PROSE Award and ICAS Best Read Award.
Current research explores the socio-environmental impact of an olive tree blight in Southern Italy. Key awards include the Kate Browne Creativity in Research Award (2024) and GAD New Directions in Anthropology Award (2024).
