Claudia Verhoeven is Associate Professor of History at Cornell University, specializing in cultural-intellectual history with focus on terror/ism, revolutionary movements in modern Russia and Europe, and political thought. Her research examines historical intersections of violence, law, and ideology from the 19th century to contemporary periods.
Verhoeven's scholarship analyzes revolutionary terrorism as political modernism, temporal dimensions of violence, and literary representations of political extremism. Current research investigates the 1969 Manson murders within frameworks of terror and temporality.
Publications include microhistorical studies of Russian revolutionary movements, analyses of temporality in terrorist acts, and examinations of legal-political concepts in imperial Russia. Recent work explores theoretical frameworks in terrorism studies through 'The Oxford Handbook of the History of Terrorism'.
