Dr. George Gilbert is an Associate Professor of Modern Russian History at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. He specializes in late Imperial Russia, focusing on radical right movements, political violence, and martyrdom studies. His research includes a monograph on the radical right and ongoing work on political martyrology in late Imperial Russia. He serves as co-director of the Centre for Eastern European and Eurasian Studies and holds editorial roles at Slavonic and East European Review. Gilbert teaches Russian history modules spanning the 19th to 20th centuries and actively supervises PhD students in modern Russian history.
