Claudia Rapp is a full Professor at the University of Vienna, affiliated with the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies. She teaches courses on Byzantine History, The Cult of Saints, and Big Books in Byzantine Studies, among others.
Her research focuses on
- Byzantine social history and religious practices
- Mobility of texts, manuscripts, and ideas across Byzantium and the medieval Mediterranean
- Ritual brotherhood and its legal/liturgical frameworks
- Monasticism and its influence on Christian identity
- Liturgical manuscripts as social history sources
Recent publications examine mobility patterns and microstructures in the Byzantine world, with a strong emphasis on intercultural exchanges and manuscript studies. She has contributed to key projects like the Sinai Palimpsests Project and the Wiener Euchologien-Projekt. Her work appears in leading journals and edited volumes.
