Claudia Murray is a Lecturer in Development and Sustainable Construction at the Department of Real Estate and Planning, Henley Business School, University of Reading. Her research focuses on urban development in Latin America, particularly addressing climate change, social inequality, and historical institutional dynamics. She holds a PhD in Geography/Architecture from King's College London (2007), an MSc in Real Estate Investment & Appraisal from Henley Business School (2012), and a MA in Cultural Studies from King's College London (2002).
Her interdisciplinary work combines historical perspectives with contemporary analysis to understand urban transformations in the Global South. Key research themes include housing policy, urban resilience, and the interplay between informality and development. Methodologically, she employs policy analysis, qualitative research, and systematic reviews. She co-chairs the Reading Latin America and Caribbean Network, promoting academic collaboration in the region.
Dr. Murray teaches modules such as 'Development Process,' 'Ethics and Sustainable Development,' and 'Development 2: Process and Viability.' Her recent grants include the Medical Research Council-funded study on obesity in Peru (2019–2022) and the Metrex Research Network Portal project (2020–2021).
