Claudia Contini is a Lecturer in Biotechnology and Engineering Biology at the Department of Life Sciences, Imperial College London, and a BBSRC Discovery Fellow. She leads the Contini Lab, focusing on creating life-like behaviors through synthetic cells and minimal systems, integrating soft matter, physical chemistry, and biochemistry. Her work bridges physical sciences, engineering, and biomedical applications to develop bio-inspired technologies.
She holds affiliations with the Centre for Advanced Therapeutics, Institute for Molecular Science and Engineering, fabriCELL, and others. Contini has held prior positions including Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and ISSF Springboard Fellow at Imperial College London. Her research explores nanomaterial interactions with biological systems, drug delivery, and synthetic biology.
Awards include the ISSF Springboard Fellowship (2019), Italy Made Me Award (2019) for innovative research in Motile Synthetic Vesicles, and recognition as a Postdoc Representative at Imperial (2019). She is co-Director of AISUK and IUPAC National Representative for Physical and Biophysical Chemistry. Her lab actively seeks global students and collaborators.
