Claude Hauser

Claude Hauser serves as Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Fribourg, where he co-directs the Swiss Center for Studies on Quebec and the Francophonie (CEQF) founded in 2010. He concurrently holds the presidency of the International Association of Quebec Studies since 2018.

His research centers on transnational intellectual history with specialized focus on Francophone cultural dynamics across Europe and the Americas. Key investigations examine two centuries of academic and artistic exchanges within the Francophone world, particularly analyzing 19th-20th century European-Canadian intellectual transfers through the lens of Quebec studies.

As co-director of CEQF, Hauser leads interdisciplinary research initiatives examining Francophone identity formation and cultural diplomacy, fostering collaborations between Swiss, Canadian, and European academic institutions to advance comparative Francophone scholarship.
