Clare Precey

Clare Precey is an Associate Professor in Politics and Journalism at the University of East Anglia's School of Media, Language and Communication Studies. Her work bridges academic research with professional media practice, focusing on political journalism, new technologies, and media regulation. She holds NCTJ certification and a postgraduate certificate in Higher Education, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Previously a BBC radio reporter, presenter, and producer, Precey has extensive industry experience including editing Newsbeat during the 2003 Iraq War and serving as BBC Radio One's newsreader on 9/11. She currently produces the 'Politics at the Edge' podcast exploring contemporary political issues, launched in 2018 with episodes addressing post-pandemic work dynamics and global political trends.

Her research interests align with UN SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through media regulation studies and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) via labor-related podcast content. Precey has contributed to media coverage on critical geopolitical events and maintains dual expertise in traditional broadcasting and emerging digital platforms.

Her professional activities include presenting Mustard TV's Norwich-based current affairs program (2015-2018) and serving in the BBC's senior radio news management during the Hutton inquiry. She has taught journalism since 2008, specializing in radio and podcasting pedagogy.
