Professor Clare Lloyd is a Vice Dean (People & Culture) at Imperial College London’s Faculty of Medicine, based in the National Heart & Lung Institute. She holds affiliations with multiple research networks including the Centre for Paediatrics and Child Health, Immuno-Pathology Network, and Vascular Science Network. Her research focuses on airway inflammation, allergic mechanisms of asthma, and early life immune development.
Education: BSc (Hons) Immunology and PhD in Immunology from King's College London (1984–1991). Postdoctoral training at Harvard University and Boston University Medical Center, followed by roles at Millennium Pharmaceuticals and Imperial College London since 1999.
Research interests emphasize epithelial-immune interactions, maternal-neonatal allergen exposure, and viral exacerbations in asthma. Her work bridges basic science and clinical studies, collaborating with the Royal Brompton Hospital’s Paediatrics Department.
Awards include the Silver Swan Award (first Silver to a UK Medical department) and Rector’s Medal. Administrative contributions include leading the NHLI Athena SWAN initiative and promoting women in science as Divisional Lead for Women (2008–2014).
She leads major research centers: Medical Research Council/Asthma UK Centre in Allergic Mechanisms of Asthma, Wellcome Trust Centre for Respiratory Infection, and the 3i Consortium for immunophenotyping mutant mice.
