Clare Lloyd is a Professor of Respiratory Immunology at Imperial College London, serving as Interim Head of the National Heart and Lung Institute and Vice Dean for Institutional Affairs in the Faculty of Medicine. She holds dual roles at the Francis Crick Institute as a Satellite Group Leader. Her research focuses on chronic allergic inflammation, pulmonary immunity, and the molecular mechanisms underlying airway hyperreactivity and remodelling. She completed her BSc and PhD in Immunology at King's College London, followed by postdoctoral training at Harvard University and Boston University Medical Center. Key career milestones include a Wellcome Senior Fellowship and her current status as a Wellcome Investigator.
Her research integrates experimental models of inflammatory diseases with genomic approaches, exploring immune pathways in asthma and glomerulonephritis. Collaborations span institutions like the Francis Crick Institute, leveraging expertise in systems biology and immunogenetics. Major achievements include defining roles for TGF-β1 in early-life allergen responses and identifying IL-10/T cell interactions in asthma pathogenesis.
Scientific awards include the National Kidney Research Fund Junior Fellowship and sustained Wellcome Trust support. Her work bridges basic biomedical research and clinical translation, with a focus on functional genomics and immune regulation. Current efforts emphasize understanding genetic and structural drivers of immune variation in chronic diseases.
