Clare Duffin is a Lecturer and joint programme leader of the BA (Hons) Commercial Music degree at the University of the West of Scotland. She holds a PhD focusing on 'mothering and music making' in Scotland and is a member of the SWIM (Scottish Women Inventing Music) advocacy group. Her research explores the working lives of female independent music artists, with a specialization in gender dynamics, digital music ecosystems, and community music practices.
Clare has held external roles including Board Member of Glasgow Girls Club since 2016, artist manager, and freelance social media consultant. Her academic expertise spans women in music, digital music distribution, and independent artist advocacy. Key collaborative partners include PPL, PRS, and Help Musicians UK.
Her research outputs analyze themes like gender equity in music industries, work-life balance for artists, and the impact of digital platforms on music distribution. Notable contributions include chapters in the Cambridge Companion to Women in Music and Palgrave Handbook of Critical Music Industry Studies.
Clare’s professional activities include invited talks at conferences and academic visits, reflecting her commitment to advancing music education and gender representation in the arts.
