Clare Daniel serves as Senior Professor of Practice and Director of Research at Tulane University's Newcomb Institute, where her work centers on reproductive rights, health, and justice through interdisciplinary scholarship and institutional leadership.
Education:
- Ph.D. and M.A. in American Studies, University of New Mexico
- B.A. in German Studies and English with Women and Gender Studies minor, Macalester College
Her research critically examines the intersections of reproductive justice, policy, and pedagogy, with particular focus on abortion access, teen pregnancy discourse, and feminist teaching methodologies. The 2017 monograph Mediating Morality: The Politics of Teen Pregnancy in the Post-Welfare Era established foundational analysis of welfare reform narratives, while her recent publications (2021-2025) demonstrate urgent engagement with post-Roe legislative landscapes, crisis pregnancy center regulation, and medical provider advocacy.
Current scholarly output reveals three dominant trajectories: 1) Analysis of university responses to abortion restrictions in Southern states, 2) Development of feminist pedagogical frameworks for online and pandemic-era teaching, and 3) Community-based coalition work addressing maternal health equity through initiatives like the New Orleans Maternal and Child Health Coalition.
As Director of Research, she administers the donor-funded Reproductive Rights and Health Internship Program, fostering equitable partnerships between Tulane and community organizations while cultivating social justice leadership among students. Her collaborative work extends to feminist scholar collectives developing digital resources for reproductive justice education.
