Clare Barrington

Clare Barrington, PhD, is a Professor and Director of the doctoral program in the Department of Health Behavior at the University of North Carolina's Gillings School of Global Public Health. She also serves as Latin American Projects Director for the UNC Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases and a Fellow at the Carolina Population Center. Her research focuses on social networks and structural influences on health, particularly HIV prevention and care among marginalized groups such as female sex workers, men who have sex with men, and transgender individuals in Latin America. She leads mixed-methods studies, including impact evaluations of social cash transfer programs and teaches qualitative data analysis.
