Clara K. Magliola serves as an Instructor and Director of the Women's Studies Minor within the Sociology Department at Chapman University's Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Her office is located in Roosevelt Hall 221, with office hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m. and by appointment.
Magliola's research interests span postcolonial theory, the politics of childhood and reproduction, poverty-alleviation strategies, secular and faith-based humanitarianisms, gender and family studies, and feminist theory. She employs a feminist pedagogy focused on democratic knowledge creation and encourages critical social engagement beyond the classroom.
Her recent scholarly work demonstrates a strong intersection between academic theory, art, and social justice activism, particularly in the realm of reproductive rights and gender equality. Magliola has curated multiple art exhibitions including the "REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE FOR ALL" exhibition (2024) and "The Sexual Politics of Meat and Intersectionality" (2019).
Among her notable achievements is the documentary film "Positive to Positive" about HIV in Botswana, which won the Best Social Awareness Film award at the I've Seen Films International Film Festival in Milan, Italy (2011).
Magliola maintains the "FEMINISTARTPOWER" website (2012-present) and serves as Curator for Chapman's Women's Studies/Feminist Zine Digital Collection in the Leatherby Libraries Special Collections (2012-present).
