Claire Willey-Sthapit is an Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare. She holds affiliations with the Toni Johnson Center for Racial and Social Justice and co-directs the Toni Johnson Scholars Program. Her research focuses on domestic violence policy, gender equity, and international development, with expertise in Nepal. She earned a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Louisville and a PhD in Social Work from the University of Washington, supplemented by Graduate Certificates in Feminist Studies and South Asia Studies.
Dr. Willey-Sthapit’s research bridges policy, practice, and community strategies to address domestic violence, particularly examining gender equitable attitudes and men’s behaviors. She employs critical discourse analysis and transnational research frameworks, advocating for epistemic justice in global social work. Her work spans pandemic impacts on gender dynamics, cultural essentialism critiques in international development, and post-disaster gendered vulnerabilities in Nepal.
