Claire Thornton is a Lecturer at Northumbria University, joining in February 2017. Her academic and professional work focuses on Sport and Exercise Psychology, Pain Responses in Athletes, and Research Methods.

Research Interests: Claire’s research examines pain tolerance, perception, and coping mechanisms in athletes, attentional demands of pain, and psychological factors influencing pain reporting. Her work also investigates yoga and mindfulness integration in Key Stage 1 education and concussion knowledge in British American Football.
Article Trends: Recent publications highlight her dual focus on athlete pain psychology (via meta-analyses in the Journal of Pain) and educational psychology (school-based yoga for child development in Mental Health and Physical Activity). She also contributes to sports safety policy analysis in Physician and Sportsmedicine and Frontiers in Sports and Active Living.
