Claire Tanner is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Monash University. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Monash University (2011) and a Women’s Studies qualification (2004). Her research focuses on intersections between digital media, health, and social justice, with particular emphasis on feminist media studies, stem cell ethics, and public health policy. She has led or contributed to major projects such as 'ARISTOCRAT: Cartilage based stem cell therapies' and 'Improving decisions about access to stem cell interventions.' Her work bridges academic research with policy impact, addressing issues like digital marketing’s health implications and patient decision-making around gene therapy.

Her research interests include feminist critiques of digital platforms, ethical dimensions of medical innovation, and participatory design methods in health communication. She has received awards including the Dean's Commendation for Excellence in Teaching (2009) and the Stephen Crook Memorial Prize (2018).
Key achievements include co-authoring Stem Cell Tourism and the Political Economy of Hope (2017), which won a major sociology prize, and leading evaluations of health websites like Stem Cells Australia. Claire has engaged in media commentary on parenting challenges during lockdowns, childcare subsidies, and remote learning pressures, demonstrating her commitment to public engagement.
