Dr. Claire Hanley is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Swansea University, affiliated with the School of Psychology and the Joint Faculty of Medicine, Health, and Life Sciences. She holds leadership roles, including heading the Dementia Research Group and leading the Psychology department's Equality and Diversity initiatives. Her research focuses on neural plasticity, aging processes, and cognitive neuroscience, employing neuroimaging and brain stimulation techniques. She completed a BSc at Swansea University, an MRes at the University of Birmingham, and a PhD at Cardiff University's CUBRIC Neuroimaging Center.
Her research explores age-related changes in neural activity, particularly how the brain adapts during aging. Notable projects include investigating the efficacy of tDCS in cognitive enhancement and studying attentional control mechanisms in older adults. She has secured grants, including a £6,000 project on MRI Haptig collaboration. Dr. Hanley has also engaged in public outreach through events like the Swansea Science Festival and BBC Wales broadcasts.
She teaches advanced modules such as 'Transcranial Brain Stimulation' and 'Neuroimaging Research Projects,' supervising postgraduate research. Her work spans over 30 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing topics like brain stimulation effects, cognitive decline, and dementia-related processing.
