Claire Cleland is a Research Fellow and Visiting Scholar at Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, affiliated with the Centre for Public Health. She holds a BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition from the University of Ulster, an IOC Dip Sports Nutrition, and a PhD in Public Health from Queen's University. Her research focuses on aging, physical activity, and urban environments, with emphasis on healthy active aging and systems science approaches to public health interventions.
Key roles include leading the GroundsWell Consortium and co-investigating the SPACE Project, which explores urban environments' impacts on cognitive health and physical activity. She has contributed to projects like HULAP (UK-Brazil collaboration), 20mph speed limit evaluations, and car dependency reduction initiatives. Teaching spans public health, nutrition, and research methods at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
