Claire Braithwaite is a Lecturer in Marine and Natural History Photography at Falmouth University, where she has taught since 2017. She holds a BA (Hons) in Photography from Falmouth College of Arts (2003), a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education (2005), and an MA in Art and Environment (2015) from Falmouth University. Her teaching focuses on first-year students, blending her expertise in photography education and horticultural studies.
Her research interests intersect photography with environmental and ecological themes, particularly marine life, sustainable gardening, and experimental techniques. Notable projects include Fading Shorelines (2023), exploring coastal erosion via cyanotype processes, and Beyond NPK (2022), advocating for organic soil practices through artistic media. She has collaborated with institutions like the Eden Project and National Trust, emphasizing the intersection of art and environmental advocacy.
Claire’s artistic work often employs mixed media and experimental methods, reflecting her MA focus on art and environment. Her Crystal Summer series (2023) documented jellyfish blooms in Cornwall, while The Walled Garden (2021) examined neglected spaces through horticultural artistry. Her practice bridges education, ecology, and creative experimentation.
