Cinzia Ferrini is an Aggregate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Trieste specializing in German idealism, with particular expertise in Hegel and Kant studies. She has maintained a permanent academic position at the university since 2000, progressing from Researcher to confirmed Researcher in 2003 and achieving Aggregate Professor status in 2006.
Her academic foundation includes:
- MA in Philosophy from Università degli Studi di Pisa and Università "La Sapienza" Roma (1981-82), with a magna cum laude thesis on the Category of Measure in Hegel's Science of Logic
- Ph.D. in Philosophy from Università "La Sapienza" Roma (1984-88), with a dissertation on Logic of Being and Concept of Nature in Hegel's System
Ferrini's research program integrates history of philosophy with science studies, examining Hegel's Doctrine of Being and Theory of Modality, early Philosophy of Nature, Kant's pre-critical writings, and the relationship between teleology and organisms. Her work connects ancient philosophical traditions with modern developments, particularly exploring models of rationality, human-animal distinctions across philosophical history, and the concept of life in Hegelian thought.
Her scholarly recognition includes multiple Alexander von Humboldt Fellowships supporting research at German institutions and significant leadership roles within the Academia Europaea, where she served on both the Council and Board of Directors.
Ferrini has received substantial research funding through Humboldt Foundation grants for projects spanning Hegel's De orbitis planetarum, Kant's pre-critical cosmogony, and the idea of life in Hegel's system. She has organized major academic events including "The Kantian Legacy" conference for Kant's bicentennial and sessions for the Academia Europaea's Annual General Meeting on intellectual risks in science and society.
