Her research examines how healthcare institutions and policies shape workers' experiences, particularly in end-of-life care for those with dementia. She explores organizational practices, worker agency, and the societal cultural frameworks influencing healthcare. A forthcoming book argues that meaningfulness in healthcare work is institutionally embedded rather than solely individual. Cain’s interdisciplinary background includes rural upbringing, diverse work experiences (e.g., factory work, elder care), and a commitment to understanding labor dynamics across sectors.
Her research interests bridge sociology, public health, and clinical sciences, emphasizing healthcare workers’ perspectives and institutional structures. Cain’s work addresses systemic challenges in healthcare transformation and the human dimensions of care provision.
