Cindy Forster is Professor of History and Chair of both the History and Latin American & Caribbean Studies departments at Scripps College. Her research examines race, gender, and class dynamics in Latin America, with a focus on oral histories of Indigenous and African-descended communities in Guatemala, Bolivia, and Haiti. She has published extensively on revolutionary movements, including her book 'The Time of Freedom' (2001), which analyzes campesino roles in Guatemala's 1944-1954 revolution.
Her recent articles in Jacobin Magazine and People's Dispatch (2020-2021) explore contemporary Indigenous activism in Bolivia and Venezuela. Forster holds a PhD from UC Berkeley and emphasizes decolonizing historical narratives through grassroots testimonies.
