Cicely A. Kelley, a Professor at Spelman College since 2017, serves as Director of Spelman Dance Theatre and Head Coach of the Jaguarettes Dance Team. She is affiliated with the Dance Performance and Choreography department and holds an M.F.A. in Dance from The University of the Arts.

Kelley’s research explores Commercial Dance Education, Black Performance Theory, and the intersection of the Black Female Body with trans-temporality. Her work emphasizes Diasporic Spidering, examining how Black cultural knowledge transcends time and geography. Recent projects include Black Social Dance: Geographies of Freedom (2025) and the 2023 film That's My Phenotype!, both highlighting her focus on Black identity, social politics, and cultural reclamation.
Kelley has received recognition for her contributions, including a 2025 Dance/USA Fellowship Finalist nomination, a 2023 Bronze Lens Film Festival award, and a Mellon Grant for Black Queer Social Dance in Atlanta. She also founded the DARE DREAM DANCE Project, offering scholarships to aspiring dancers in major U.S. cities.
