Chuang Yu is a Research Fellow at the UCL Interaction Centre (UCLIC), University College London. His research focuses on Affective AI, chatbots with Large Language Models, and human-centered AI systems. Previously, he served as a Research Associate at the Cognitive Robotics Lab, University of Manchester, where he worked on cognitive robotics, Theory of Mind, and reinforcement learning, supported by UKRI Trustworthy Autonomous Systems-Node in Trust. As a Co-Investigator, he contributed to a UKRI TAS Integrated Project on human-in-the-loop assistive robotics for verifiably human-centric robot-assisted dressing.
His doctoral studies at the Autonomous Systems and Robotics Lab, Polytechnic Institute of Paris, centered on multimodal affective AI and generative models for social robotics. His expertise spans the integration of AI into daily life, emphasizing user experience and ethical human-robot interaction.
Research interests include advancing AI systems that prioritize human well-being, with applications in social robotics and emotional intelligence. His work bridges theoretical frameworks and practical implementations, aiming to create trustworthy and user-centric technologies.
