Christos Vlachos

Christos Vlachos serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry, with appointments dating back to December 2002. He also holds a Scientist position at the Global Center for Craniofacial, Oral and Dental Disorders (GC-CODED) since January 2017.

His research interests focus on orthodontic biomechanics, craniofacial growth, translational literature in orthodontics, and orthognathic surgery. Dr. Vlachos has developed expertise in head and neck anatomy as evidenced by his teaching portfolio.

Dr. Vlachos has held significant leadership roles including Program Director since 2002, Interim Department Chairperson (July-August 2018), and previously served as Acting Department Chairperson and Acting Program Director.

As an educator, he has mentored graduate students including Pierpont Brown IV, Ahmed Abumustafa, and Chih Yen Liu as Thesis Committee Chair. His teaching responsibilities span numerous orthodontic courses at both predoctoral and graduate levels.

His educational background includes a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, awarded on June 8, 1992.
