His work bridges clinical practice, public health, and implementation science to address healthcare system challenges, particularly in regional Australia.
Williams' research expertise spans Health Services Research, Musculoskeletal conditions, Implementation Science, Health risk behaviours, Clinical Trials, Public Health, and Population Health. He leads the Hunter New England Musculoskeletal Health Services Program and co-leads the Centre for Pain, Health and Lifestyle, a multi-institutional collaboration. His work emphasizes novel methods for conducting efficient research trials in real-world contexts, including assessing clinical interventions, implementation strategies, and developing platforms for Studies Within A Trial (SWATs).
His publication record shows a strong focus on musculoskeletal pain (particularly back pain), implementation of evidence-based practices, and healthcare system improvements. Recent work examines lifestyle interventions for low back pain, pediatric musculoskeletal conditions, health service redesign, and economic evaluations of pain-related conditions.
