Prof. Christopher W. M. Kay is a Professor at Saarland University's Department of Chemistry, leading a multidisciplinary research group focused on Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) Spectroscopy, Chemistry Education, and Ionic Liquids. His team operates out of the Electronic and Mechanical Workshop and NanoBioLab facilities. Research highlights include advancing ESR applications in materials science and biosciences, alongside developing educational initiatives for chemistry students.
Recent academic contributions include organizing the 58th International EPR Spectroscopy Conference (2025) and launching the PCB Seminar series bridging Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. He supervises graduate students like Haakon Wiedemann (PhD), Jonas Bach (MSc), and Maxim Neuberger (MSc), whose work spans ESR applications in molecular dynamics and radical synthesis. His group collaborates on projects such as optimizing microwave resonators and exploring DNP techniques for enhanced NMR sensitivity.
Teaching responsibilities include directing chemistry education programs and supporting first-year students through preparatory math courses. The group maintains active participation in international conferences and hosts service-oriented Mass Spectrometry facilities.
